It seemed very odd there wasn't a 64-bit anti-virus installer from AVG for their products, so I already knew something was wrong with their product when I began installing it from the web installer, under 1Meg in size. Even if I saved the web installer and right clicked the .exe and did 'Run as Administrator' it still wouldn't work.
Then I searched around google and found that the full installer, about 78Megs in size, would download just fine, and then install properly without a hitch. So, if you're installing AVG Free 9.0+ on a Vista x64 or Windows 7 x64 OS, try to download the full installer, because there is something not right with the web installer. This is possibly due to their software installer, or a 32-bit browser making the software incorrectly detect the OS to install to. Either way the full download will work fine and update perfectly.
